Ferry Discounts for Residents in Spain
Who can benefit?
All European Union citizens residing in the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta, or Melilla are eligible for a 75% discount on ferry fares. Additionally, residents of Formentera receive an 89% discount on the route connecting Formentera and Ibiza.
On the second purchase page of Próximo Ferry you can select the resident condition, and the price will be adjusted accordingly.
How is the discount applied?
When booking, you must indicate your resident status. Most ferry companies automatically verify residence through the SARA system. If that’s not possible, you must present a valid certificate of residence.
The resident discount applies to all fares and accommodations. However, no discount is applied to vehicles, and all required documentation must be valid.
In cases where the resident status cannot be verified electronically, a physical copy of the certificate of residence and a valid ID must be presented.

The discount applies to:
- Trips between islands within the same archipelago
- Routes between the islands and the mainland
- Routes from Ceuta and Melilla to the mainland

What is the current regulation?
The 75% subsidy is regulated by the Government of Spain and funded through the general budget. It is established in Royal Decree 13/16/2001, dated November 30.
